California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)
Students are required to pass the California High School Exit Exam to qualify for graduation.
The State of California requires that in order for a student to receive a diploma of graduation from a California public high school, the student must pass the California High School Exit Examination. The exit exam is based on the state content standards for English Language arts through tenth grade and Mathematics through Algebra. A student’s first opportunity to take the exam is in the Spring of the tenth grade. Students will be given multiple opportunities to take the CAHSEE from 10th -12th grades. Students who have yet to pass one or both exams by the 12th grade will be referred for remediation to support the student in passing the exam.
STAR Testing
The California Standards Tests are given to all 9th-11th graders every Spring. These exams test student knowledge of the California State Content Standards. Scotts Valley High School's Academic Performance Index (API) is determined by the combination of the CAHSEE and the California Standards Test scores. Individual test scores may be used to identify students needing remediation or other support. Students may be referred to their counselor for placement in courses as determined by test scores or by a parent and student conference.
